Required information in your online store
As a webshop, you are required to make certain information available in a clear place. In this lesson, you will learn which information is mandatory and how to present it.
Like any Dutch company, you need to have a registration with the Chamber of Commerce and a VAT number. Present these on your site as well. Formally, not displaying this information is an economic offence and therefore a criminal offence.
Displaying an e-mail address is also mandatory (just a contact form is not enough). As a merchant, you are required to provide a physical address on your webshop (a P.O. Box is not sufficient). The law requires you to provide a phone number, but now also allows alternatives where you respond within 30-60 minutes. Think of chat, Whatsapp or even a Twitter feed.
Make your terms and conditions visible
Do this during the ordering process, but also offer them for download as pdf, for example
Use privacy statement
Your privacy statement clearly states what you use the visitor's (personal) data for.
Clearly state the method of delivery including deadline.
If you don't communicate anything, you are required to deliver within 30 days. The law requires that it be absolutely clear what steps a customer must go through to place an order.
Describe this on a page or in an instructional video, for example, to explain the process. Leave no ambiguity about delivery or other additional costs.
If you deliver to consumers, all prices in your webshop must include VAT. You are also obliged to offer your customers the right of withdrawal. Also offer the model form.
Offer clear information about legal warranties and any vendor and manufacturer warranties.
